Growing Requirements: Thrives in dry, well-drained soil Prefers full sun to partial shade Extremely drought tolerant once established Adaptable to sandy, rocky, or poor soils Hardy in USDA zones 3-8 Features: Pussytoes (Antennaria spp.) are charming native groundcovers known for their soft, silvery foliage and fuzzy, button-like flower clusters that resemble tiny cat paws—hence the name. These low-growing perennials form dense mats that help suppress weeds and prevent soil erosion, making them ideal for sunny slopes, rock gardens, native lawns, and pollinator-friendly plantings. Pussytoes are particularly valued for their toughness in poor soils and dry conditions. They also serve as a vital host plant for the American Painted Lady butterfly caterpillar, adding ecological value to your landscape. Once established, they require little to no maintenance and will slowly spread to create a silvery carpet of foliage and delicate blooms in the spring. Plant Benefits: Supports native pollinators and butterfly species Perfect for low-maintenance landscapes and native groundcovers Helps stabilize soil and prevent erosion Provides a unique texture and soft color to sunny gardens
