As per the Smithsonian, this antique Japanese plate was made in "Great Japan", this term indicates that the plate was made no earlier than the late 19th century, the six characters on the bottom of the plate are indicative of this as well. The two stone carvings are Chinese in provenance and they were most likely made in the last 140 years or so. We are attaching a letter from an art gallery in Washington, D.C. that was sent to the original owner of this plate. The plate has two chips on the edges and two hairline cracks (see pics) but are in excellent condition otherwise. Beautiful, sharp colors!! Reds, black, white and gold!!
