This product is designed to beautify and protect exterior wood surfaces while standing up to harsh weather conditions. Deck and siding solid stain also provides a UV and mildew resistant coating. Surface Preparation: Optimal performance is achieved when the product is applied to a clean, dry, and absorbent wood substrate. This product must be able to penetrate. The moisture content of the wood should not exceed 15% to allow for proper penetration. New Wood: Smooth planed wood siding, trim, or decking must be sanded thoroughly or treated with Woodluxe® Wood Brightener and Neutralizer (K017) to break the “mill glaze” and allow proper penetration. After prep is complete, allow the wood to dry then test for penetration by applying a few drops of water to the substrate. If the water does not quickly penetrate, repeat prep, or consult your Benjamin Moore® retailer. Weathered Wood: Prior to staining, gray and weathered wood must be treated with Woodluxe® Wood Restorer (K016), following label directions, until a sound surface is obtained (loose or damaged wood fibers removed). Un-weathered areas such as eaves, ceilings, overhangs, or protected areas must be washed with Woodluxe® All-In-One Wood Cleaner (K018) and rinsed with a strong stream from a garden hose to remove surface salts that can interfere with proper adhesion. Previously Stained Surfaces: This product can also be applied to surfaces previously stained that is weathered but is not flaking or peeling. Remove contaminants or chalky residue from weathered stained surfaces by washing with Woodluxe™ All-InOne Wood Cleaner (K018) and allow to dry thoroughly. If the existing stain is flaking or peeling it should be removed prior to staining. Existing paint, stain or sealer can be removed by sanding with an On Floor machine or using Woodluxe™ Wood Stain Remover (K015). Weathered Composite Decks: Prior to Staining, the entire area should be properly cleaned using Woodluxe™ All-In-One Wood Cleaner (K018) and allow to dry thoroughly. Do not stain composite decking material with any colour darker than the original colour or having a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of less than 55. Stains from mildew must be removed by cleaning with Woodluxe™ All-In-One Wood Cleaner (K018) prior to coating the surface. Caution: Refer to the K015, K016, K017 and K018 technical data and safety data sheets for instructions on their proper use and handling. Priming: This product is self-priming on most substrates. If the wood is tannin-rich such as cedar or redwood; prime with Fresh Start ® Exterior Deck & Siding Primer (K094) or Fresh Start® High-Hiding All Purpose Primer (K046). Prime before caulking and reprime over caulked areas before applying finish coat Limitations: Do not apply when air or surface temperatures are below 40 °F (4.4 °C) New pressure treated lumber must be allowed to dry out and have a moisture content below 15% For exterior use only Compatiility: Determine compatibility of existing paint on previously painted surfaces of a pool before painting. Use dark colors for accent painting only, as they may prematurely fade or blister, especially in chemically treated water. Application: Prior to staining, ensure you have enough product to complete an entire section. In can colour may differ from the final dried finish, therefore it is recommended to test a small area for colour acceptance. When using multiple containers, intermix stain to ensure colour uniformity. Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use. This stain can be applied by brush, roller, pad applicator, or by using a pump sprayer. For roller, pad, or spray application, follow with back brushing for greater penetration. Apply 1-2 coats. 2 coats will provide optimal protection and performance. Can be recoated after a minimum of 4 hours. When used as a deck stain, allow to dry for 48 hours before putting furniture back and returning to service. Temperature and humidity may affect drying time. In can colour may differ from the final dried finish. Apply evenly, allowing the stain to penetrate into the wood. Brush from dry into wet areas, stopping at natural breaks, i.e., stairs or edges. To minimize lapping, always maintain a wet edge. On siding or decking, apply the stain on a section of 2 or 3 boards completely across the length of the boards. Continue by coating the next section of boards in the same manner until the area is completed. Vertical siding is coated using the same principle from top to bottom. Never stop staining in the middle of the board; continue until a natural break is reached. Avoid staining in direct sunlight as this will prevent the product from penetrating properly and causing lap marks. Apply when air and surface temperatures are between 4.4 °C (40 °F) and 32.2 °C (90 °F). Brush: Nylon / polyester Roller: Premium Quality Spray, Airless: Pressure / 2,000 – 3,000 PSI - Tip / 0.013 – 0.017 Thinning/Clean Up: Thinning is not needed although Conditioning with Benjamin Moore® K518 Extender may be necessary under certain conditions to adjust open time or spray characteristics. Add K518 Extender or water - Max of 236 mL to 3.79 L of paint Never add other paints or solvents. Clean Up: Wash brushes, rollers, and other painting tools in warm soapy water immediately after use. It creates an easy to maintain finish as a result of its scuff resistant properties. Limitations: Do not paint when air or surface temperature is below 10 °C (50 °F). For interior use only. Surface Preparation: Surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, dust, grease, oil, soap, wax, scaling paint, water soluble materials, and mildew. Remove any peeling or scaling paint and sand these areas to feather edges smooth with adjacent surfaces. Glossy areas should be dulled. Drywall surfaces must be free of sanding dust. New plaster or masonry surfaces must be allowed to cure (30 days) before applying base coat. Cured plaster should be hard, have a slight sheen and maximum pH of 10; soft, porous or powdery plaster indicates improper cure.
