Description
Black Raspberry is an Ontario native that produces dark, sweet berries. It's a large, sprawling shrub and will require support to grow on. The berries are attractive to wildlife. Black raspberries should not be planted near red raspberries, as they can transmit diseases. If you want to grow both, they should be spaced 75-100 feet apart. Raspberries are self-fertile, and only one variety is needed to produce fruit. Black Raspberry is a floricane-fruiting variety, meaning it produces berries on 2-year-old canes. Once the cane has finished fruiting, it should be cut back to the ground to encourage the growth of new canes. Raspberries grow best in full to part sun with slightly acidic, moist, fertile, well-drained soil.
