Description
Trembling, or Quaking Aspen, is a fast-growing deciduous tree native to Ontario. It's quite ornamental with its shimmering leaves that 'tremble' in the slightest breeze, pale greenish-white bark when young, and brilliant golden-yellow fall colour. While it may be tempting to plant these at your house, we recommend planting them in large, open areas where they can naturalize. There are a few reasons for this, the main being that they produce new trees via suckers that can quickly take over a small yard. They also have fairly weak wood, a short lifespan, and are intolerant of heat, humidity and compacted soil. Aspens grow best in full sun with rich, fertile, sandy to loamy, well-draining soil. Avoid planting near buildings.
