Description
Hesse is a deciduous, low-growing shrub with glossy, dark green leaves and small pinkish flowers in late spring. In the late summer/early fall, small bright red fruits appear, providing winter interest and food for birds and small mammals. Hesse is deciduous, but the leaves develop a nice reddish-purple fall colour before dropping to the ground. Cotoneaster is very easy to grow. They prefer full to part sun and average, well-drained soils. Their sprawling, spreading habit also makes them great for erosion control.
