Description
Cardinal Basil produces vigorous, upright plants with fragrant leaves and highly ornamental dark scarlet flowers. This variety is so robust that no pinching is required. Basil can and should be harvested frequently to prolong its life. Since basil is an annual, it will stop growing once the flowers start to appear, as it transfers all its energy into producing seeds. If you see flowers starting to form, pinch them off to encourage leafy growth. Basil grows best in full sun with rich, loose, well-drained soil. Allow the top of the soil to dry out before watering again, but don't let the soil stay dry for too long.
