Description
Radicchio is a leafy vegetable that is a member of the chicory family. It looks similar to red cabbage, but when raw it has a bold, bitter taste that becomes milder and nuttier when cooked. It can be grilled, used in pasta, or eaten raw. This variety has better firmness, internal colour, and heat tolerance. You can harvest your radicchio as individual leaves when needed, or harvest the whole head once it is firm and developed. Cut it off at ground level. If you are growing a fall crop, wait until a few light frosts have happened; this helps take some bitterness out of the leaves. Radicchio grows best in full sun with fertile, consistently moist, well-drained soil. Consider adding organic matter to your garden to improve drainage and soil fertility.
