This is a system-specific cable for Vandersteen subwoofer integration — not a general-purpose interconnect. The X-2 balanced version contains a passive high-pass filter network inside the XLR housing, designed to be inserted between the preamplifier output and the amplifier input. The filter rolls off the low frequencies sent to the main amplifier, letting the Vandersteen subwoofer (typically a 2Wq or similar) handle the bass while the main amp drives the full-range speakers without the added burden of low-frequency content. The 150k ohm designation refers to the resistor value in the filter network, which must be matched to the input impedance of the specific amplifier being used. This is not interchangeable — a 150k filter in a system with a 47k ohm amplifier input will not roll off at the correct frequency. Buyers need to confirm their amplifier's input impedance matches before purchasing. Half a foot is correct — these cables plug directly at the amplifier's input, and the preamp feeds into the other end. Length is irrelevant here; the filter is the product.
