Marvel over the gentle, soft coloring as well as the smooth merging of the one color into the other. Downstream , our latest flattie hybrid, is a bearded iris in the Novelty category. All 6 petals, like a Japanese iris, are falls. Surprisingly flatties trace all the way back to Bertrand Farr in 1920. It's believed that we have only introduced one flattie previous to this year ( Fluffy Pillows , 2008) unless you count the ones run over by the tractor. Our Downstream is a refined light blue purple, oozing to white in the centers. Lavender-white style arms conspicuously stand alone in the center. Blessed with a charming fragrance, it's 36" high with 7 buds on a stem. Flatties are gaining a growing following because they are different and their color range can only expand. Downstream grows well, is tinted and is a late bloomer.
