Description
Nepenthes maxima is a highly variable species with a wide distribution across South-East Asia. This particular form of Nepenthes maxima is found on Gunung Lumut in Indonesia. According to the supplier of this plant (Borneo Exotics) it is a female, and they also claim it to be the finest specimen of Nepenthes maxima that they have seen. It produces long, elegant pitchers with bright red spots, stripes and mottling. This Nepenthes pitcher plant's peristomes are narrow, elongated, and begin lightly colored and striped with red bands, but later transform to a deep, uniform, crimson red. This form of N. maxima has such an attractive form that it was mistakenly sold as Nepenthes eymae for many years. It was only recently revealed to be N. maxima when it did not produce the characteristic upper pitchers of N. eymae . This Nepenthes pitcher plant will be shipped bare-root with a 3" plastic pot and enough top-quality New Zealand long-fiber sphagnum moss to fill it. Planting and growing instructions will also be included.
