Dudleya brittonii or Giant Chalk Dudleya is a wonderful container plant and rock garden specimen. The blooms attract various pollinators, including hummingbirds who love the showy red/yellow blooms. Native to coastal cliffs where it grows out out of cracks in rocks and rocky slopes. Their unique coloring is caused by the glaucous wax-like substance on the top of the cuticle that acts as a sunscreen to protect the plant from water loss in the sun.
