Masdevallia erinacea, often nicknamed the “Hedgehog Masdevallia” for its fuzzy, hedgehog‑like blooms, is a miniature epiphytic orchid species native to Central America (Costa Rica, Panama) and northern South America (Colombia, Ecuador) at altitudes of about 700–1,400 m. The plant forms a compact tuft of narrow leaves, with each new growth bearing a single striking flower just above the foliage. The flowers are small (around ~1 cm diameter) with yellow to brown‑rust tones, distinctive hairs on the surface, and often long drooping filamentous sepal tails. It is appreciated by collectors for its quirky form, miniature size, and surprisingly tolerant nature (relative to some other Masdevallias) which makes it suitable for terrariums or humid cabinet culture. Short Care Guide Light: Provide bright, indirect light but avoid strong direct sunlight. Filtered light or shaded light is best Temperature: This species tolerates intermediate to slightly warm conditions better than many masdevallias: Day: ~20‑26 °C (68‑79 °F) Night: ~15‑18 °C (59‑65 °F) Avoid prolonged hot, dry conditions. Humidity & Airflow: High humidity (70%+) with good airflow is important. The roots and medium should never be allowed to dry out completely. Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist, but not soggy. Never allow the plant to dry out for long periods. Some growers mount the plant and mist frequently. Potting / Mounting: Because of its miniature size, M. erinacea does well mounted on cork, tree‑fern slabs or in very small pots with a fine, open, moist medium (e.g., sphagnum moss + fine bark). The compact tufted growth habit makes it ideal for terrariums or small containers.

Philodendron hederaceum

Philodendron hederaceum is known for its versatility and durability in a variety of different spaces. With the proper care, it can be a fast growing during the spring and summer making it perfect for hanging baskets! The baskets are especially cute due to the heart shaped foliage. Care: We recommend weekly waterings typically as the soil is 1"-2" dry for this size. This will also do best in a bright filtered light. Although this is sold often as a low light plant, our definition of low light is what the plant needs to survive. A source of natural light somewhere in the room will keep this plant sustained and thriving. Usually we say if you can read a book in the room without the light on during the day it's usually enough light for this one. All of our plants are ethically sourced from certified U.S. nurseries. We strongly condemn the poaching of plants or wild collection.
