A stunning antique three-piece hand-carved figural staircase with mermaids, sea creatures, women, and flowers. Salvaged from a house built in 1939, this set features astonishing detail, and includes two long pieces for a stair handrail and a smaller section designed for a landing. The first handrail section, intricately carved on both sides, begins with a woman with flowing hair, surrounded by water lilies and other flowers, atop carved waves. Below, a second girl rides a whiskered sea creature amid aquatic plants; at the bottom, a little girl hides among leaves. The landing section, carved only on one side, features a large fish at the bottom of the sea, surrounded by carved plants, flowers, and rocks. The second handrail, also carved only on one side, features a mermaid in the center, flanked by large fish amid leaves and flowers. The first handrail section is approx. 12″ (145″) long, 35″ tall at the top section, and 25-1/2″ tall on the bottom end. The landing piece measures 31″ by 43″. Dating from the late 1800s, the body of the sconce features exquisite casting, with an urn at its center surrounded by trefoil and quatrefoil detail. Five arms support elegant wax pans and candle cups which hold upward facing lights, each accented with their original decorative gas keys. The five downward facing lights feature amazing bobeches with cutouts and leafy detailing. This wall lamp is in excellent condition; it has been professionally rewired and comes with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. Dating from the early 1900s, the sconce features a stylized urn-shaped back plate and an elongated body with scrolling volute accents. A fluted arm extends from the bottom of the back plate and curves upward to support an elegant octagonal wax pan and candle cup. This wall lamp is in excellent condition and has been stamped by it’s maker C. B. Rogers. It has been professionally rewired and come with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. A delightful pair of Neoclassical carved wood sconces by E.F. Caldwell, dating from the early 1900’s, and found in a home in Eerie, PA. Each figural sconce is crowned with a fancifully knotted rope finished in tassel; it loops through a finial at the top of the backplate below. The backplate continues the roped motif, also finishing in larger, more elaborate tassels. Slender brass arms extend from the backplate to support whimsical birds nested within flowers; petite candle cups crown the birds’ heads. These wall lamps are in excellent condition; they have been professionally rewired and come with all the necessary attachments for modern installation. The sconces measure 35-1/2″ tall, 13-1/4″ wide, and project 9″ from the wall. There is a complementary sconce pair available under #NSP1286-RW.

An attractive antique American majolica glazed fireplace tile, dating from the 19th century, and found in a home in Philadelphia, PA. The tile features a silhouette of a Roman soldier wearing a helmet with feathers. It was manufactured by The Old Bridge Tile Co. located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. The company was founded by William E. Rivers in 1890; in 1903 the company consolidated with the Robertson Art Tile Co. of Trenton and the Columbia Encaustic Tile Co. of Anderson, IN, to form the National Tile Co. The tile is in very good condition with the expected surface crazing (as pictured.) It measures 4-1/8” by 4-1/8”.

A striking antique American majolica glazed fireplace tile, dating from the 19th century, and found in a home in New York, NY. The tile features a portrait of a young man wearing a feathered hat and was most likely designed by Isaac Broome. It was manufactured by the Trent Tile Co. located in Trenton, New Jersey. The tile company was established in 1882 as the Harris Manufacturing Co. an soon changed its name to the Trent Tile Co. It was well known for the beauty and variety of its embossed glazed tiles, which were available in 118 colors and thousands of designs. The tile is in good condition with the expected surface crazing and few minor nicks (as pictured.) It measures 6” by 6”.

The Sullivan Tower was situated on the LifeWay Christian Resources Campus; it was designed by Hart Freeland Roberts architects and was constructed in the 1940’s.
